PILLAR ONE: LISTEN

The Discipline of Curiosity

Understanding Before Advising

Before we can develop people. Before we can strengthen organizations. Before we can create opportunity.

We must first understand the experiences people carry with them.

Listening is not passive. It is not polite waiting. It is intense, whole-body absorption, done by someone who intends to be responsible for what they hear. At BLAC, we believe that nobody possesses an institution's complete story alone. The real one lives in the people who went there. By listening deeply to those who hold the pieces, we discover not just what happened, but what it meant.

The discipline of curiosity begins when we choose to ask questions before we offer answers. When we create space for stories that might challenge what we thought we knew. When we honor the experiences of others as the foundation for everything that follows.
