Charise Richards, M.A., will graduate from The Ohio State University of Columbus, Ohio, in 2025. She is an educator, consultant, and PhD candidate at The Ohio State University. Her academic training is in Multicultural and Equity Studies in Education. Her current scholarship focuses on the role of student-teacher and maternal relationships as it relates to the identity development of adolescent Black girls in education.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Richards attended and taught in schools in the United States, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and Asia. In addition to over 14 years of experience as an educator in both the public and private sectors, she has also volunteered as a Social Emotional Counselor for Rochester AmeriCorps in Rochester, New York. During her service year, Richards' primary assignment expedited the academic and behavioral interventions of middle school boys from historically underserved communities in the Rochester City School District.
Since then, Richards has expanded her professional expertise by working with administrators in the Columbus City Schools District in Columbus, Ohio. Recently, she supported both pre-service and veteran practitioners as they applied a more holistic approach toward their students and academic curriculum. Her practical strategies help K-12 educators and administrators support and empower the unique identities of students from historically marginalized communities.
